  Lonmin is the world’s third largest platinum producer with the majority of its operations located at Marikana, situated roughly halfway between Brits and Rustenburg in the North West. An essential part of Lonmin’s operations is the Process Division consisting of Concentrators, Smelter, Base Metal and Precious Metal Refinery. Lonmin has the following opportunity for talented, results-driven self-starters:  

 

   
  Section Engineer (Ref. 4689)        
  The Section Engineer will lead the provision of maintenance, engineering design and logistics services for the mining operation, which may include a cluster of shafts. You will need to ensure both optimal equipment performance and the effective movement of men, material and ore throughout the mining process. This is a legal appointment in terms of Regulation 2.13.1 and 2.13.3.1 of the MHSA. You will implement changes to ensure compliance with continuous legislative changes within the areas of responsibility, implement the risk management programme and measures to continually improve SHE conditions, and ensure that all subordinates are trained and competent. Furthermore, you will implement and execute short and medium-term infrastructural, maintenance, skills and utility plans to meet business objectives, manage and control engineering budgets, coordinate all project activities within the area of responsibility to ensure adherence to project plans as well as be responsible for team management and development.

You will need: • NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering • Government Certificate of Competence –
Mines (Electrical and/or Mechanical) • Professional registration (Certificated Engineer) would be advantageous • At least 4 years’ experience as an appointed Production Engineer on a mine (Vertical Shaft Engineer) and at least 2 years’ relevant mining experience or completion of a recognised Junior Engineers training programme (Production Engineer) • Sound knowledge of all equipment used within the mining environment • Sound understanding of mining and engineering processes • Sound understanding of the maintenance requirements of the equipment and structures installed • Relevant computer skills • Sound knowledge of maintenance systems and the computerised maintenance management system • Solid fundamental business principles • Project management skills.
