Kroondal/ Rustenburg – A multi-disciplinary task team comprising Crime Intelligence, Tracking Teams, SAPS Airwing and Magma Investigations conducted a crime intelligence tactical operation in Kroondal near Rustenburg on Wednesday 14 November.


The suspects were tracked to a safe house. Once they realised that they were cornered, they sped off in four vehicles. 


According to colonel Brenda Muridili, the teams gave chase and swiftly arrested eight suspects, between the ages of 33 and 42. During the arrest, the police seized four vehicles: two sedans, an SUV and a minibus. 


They also confiscated an assault rifle and ammunition. 
Besides the eight arrested, more suspects are on the loose. Investigations continue. 


The national commissioner has commended the continuous thwarting of planned cash in transit (CIT) robberies and the arrest of suspects before they can carry out their brazen attacks. 


The suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, and the possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. The case has been transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation for further investigations.
