Mabeskraal – On Monday 4 November, five armed men entered the Mabeskraal Post Office and demanded cash from the cashier.

The cashier complied and after handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects fled the scene.

According to police spokesperson captain Sam Tselanyane, the suspects fired four shots outside the post office.

One of the bullets hit 32-year old Stephan du Plessis in the face through the windscreen of his vehicle. He happened to be driving past the post office at that particular moment.

In his state, Stephan managed to drive himself to Rietfontein Clinic in Mabalstad – about 29km away – before he collapsed. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Pretoria.

The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles – a green Ford Bantam and a white Toyota Hilux bakkie. Investigations continue.

Stephan du Plessis was shot in the face after driving past an armed robbery.
