R44 000 Speed Fine!
   
  Krugersdorp – Are you a speed freak? You might want to reconsider in the light of the Department of Transport’s drive to crack down hard on road traffic violations.
Brian Ely, a 32-year-old accountant from Johannesburg was fined R44 000 for travelling at 206km/h in a 120km/h zone on his motorbike (November 16). Apparently he was on his way to visit some friends in Pine Haven.

Brian was slapped with the massive penalty by the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court, following his arrest earlier on the N14 between Muldersdrift and Zwartkops. He was driving his Kawasaki super bike.
He was found guilty of reckless driving and will have to pay handsomely for his crime over the next few months, although he’s managed to reduce his fine to R22 000, payable over a six month period. He had the choice of payment OR 90 days in jail…
