Rustenburg – When nature
decides to shoot it all to
smithereens – it uses giant
ice bullets!
Extreme hail is probably the
most dangerous and lifethreatening
weather event
for those unlucky enough to
be in the open.
It leaves fist-sized dents in
sheet metal, destroys windshields
and comes down
with a force that some compare
with hand grenades, or
even an artillery attack.
On Wednesday, October 19,
Rustenburg experienced
such a hailstorm.
It started around 16h00, and
turned violent 10 minutes
later.
Numerous complaints were
received from all over town.
Ash Ramraj, General Manager
at Hyundai (Rtb) said,
“We had up to 20 cars that
were damaged by the hailstorm.
Three of these cars
were damaged severely with
broken windscreens and tail
lights.”

“We also had a few customers
that had their cars damaged
and we advised them
to approach their insurance
companies.” Marlene Theron,
Manager at MH Motors
said. “Two of our cars were
seriously damaged.” she
added.
Hendrik Smit of Hendrik Smit
Brokers (014 592 1759) reiterated,
“Numerous people
called in and enquired about
hail-related claims. We received
between 10 to 15
cases within a few hours.”
Best Auto, Rustenburg, took
the brunt of the force, and
has reported damage to the
value of approximately R2
million.
According to Weather SA,
strange weather patterns
have been doing the rounds
the last couple of weeks. |
