Rustenburg – The family of 2-year-old Isabella Kruger (affectionately known as “Pipi”) are appealing to the community for financial assistance in order to bring back a smile on the face of their daughter. On newyears eve 2012, the unthinkable occurred… Pipi sustained extremely serious burn wounds to her face and body in an accident which occurred during a family braai.
The Kruger family was celebrating New Year’s Eve, when a gel-based fire lighter container exploded – and in a matter of seconds, Pipi’s fate has changed.
While Erwin Kruger, Pipi’s father, was also burnt by the flames – it was Pipi who suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to hospital. This incident has left the family, friends and relatives of this little girl devastated.
Doctors say that approximately 80% of Pipi’s body sustained 3rd degree burn wounds. At this stage, she is in a critical but stable condition at the ICU unit of the Garden City Clinic in Brixton undergoing strenuous treatment.
She has to undergo a series of plastic surgeries, to ultimately surgically reconstruct her face, which was extensively damaged during this horrific ordeal.
“We need to raise funds to be used for Pipi’s surgeries and treatment,” said Karen Briel, a close friend of the Kruger Family. “The Beauty Vroue Lanbou Unie, also assisting with the fund-raising activities, said that about R500 000 must be collected. That is a tough target,” Karen added in a statement to the Platinum Weekly. |

Unfortunately this astronomical amount will basically cover the surgery costs; however additional medical expenses must also be covered.
“I pray for a speedy recovery for Pipi every day. I love her very much,” she added. “She is tremendously brave and continues the fight to recovery, but she is very small and it simply breaks my heart! Even though she is under enormous pain, she already tries to speak through the ventilator. What can I say? The situation leaves me speechless.”
Alarmingly; this unfortunate event created an unpleasant situation… Apparently, someone created an SMS line where you can send an SMS and donate R10 “in support of Pipi”. “We do not know who created the SMS line and we are not associated with it in any way,” Karen said.
