| Rustenburg – Referring back to the headlines
of the Platinum Weekly, 18 November 2011… “A
well-known and beloved former Rustenburg resident,
Chanelle Henning (26), was murdered in
a drive-by shooting in Faerie Glen by a masked
motorcyclist. This adored former pupil of Selly
Park Secondary School was shot moments after
she dropped her son Benjamin at Morningstar
Montessori Crèche, in what Police described
as a “hit”. Since then, this highly sensitive and
widely-followed case has developed exponentially…
as her husband is now viewed as the
Number 1 Suspect & “Mastermind”…
The Hawks have declined to divulge any further
information on the idea that Nico Henning (husband)
could be the prime suspect in the murder
of his wife, Chanelle (Jan 19). However, on
Tuesday (Feb 17), it emerged that Nico had allegedly
made a phone call in a bid to delay the
hit on his estranged wife. One of the five men
arrested for the murder of mother Chanelle Henning
received this call…

Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela confirmed
that Nico was now a suspect. However,
he added that releasing any further information
could jeopardise the case. It was further unclear
why he had not been arrested or why the
police had only now decided to disclose his alleged
involvement in the matter. The connection
emerged in the bail application of Nico’s close
friend, Andre Gouws. Police investigator Petrus
Van der Spuy told the court Nico called Gouws
during his meeting with the alleged assassins.
Van der Spuy was testifying in the State’s bid to
prevent Gouws from getting bail. Van der Spuy
told the court that phone records indicated that
Gouws received the call from Nico Henning.
Gouws’ bail application will be heard later in
January. Nico was not available for comment.
The Hennings son was in the middle of a custody
battle at the time of his mother’s murder.
The couple had previously been embroiled in a
custody dispute, which Chanelle won. |
