Two accused remain behind bars after Hannetjie van Zyl’s death

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Ottosdal – Two men accused of murdering and robbing Johanna “Hannetjie” van Zyl (55) at Doornpan Farm outside Ottosdal remain in custody ahead of their formal bail applications.

According to police spokesperson sergeant Kelebogile Morake, Martin Boitumelo Mosime (28) and Moleko Sekwaage (29) appeared before the Bloemhof Periodical Court on Thursday, 8 October 2026. Both face charges of murder and robbery. The matter was postponed to Thursday, 15 October 2026, for formal bail applications. Both accused were remanded in custody.

Van Zyl was attacked while opening a gate to enter the farm on Monday evening, 5 October. Her husband took her to a hospital in Klerksdorp, where, according to police, she later died from her injuries.
