More than 2 000 community
members attended the
official opening of the
Atomatic Chrome Recovery
Plant by MEC Seaparo
Sekoati of the Department
of Economic Development,
Environment and Tourism,
who represented the Premier
of Limpopo, at the event.
The event, which was held at the Northam RDP
ground on 1 February 2017, saw the crowd
being addressed by the MEC, as well as other
dignatories including the mayor of Thabazimbi
Local Municipality Midah Moselane; Kgoshi
Manotshe Ramokoka; Kgosana Saltiel
Ramokoka; and Gary Humphries, chairperson
of the of the Atomatic partnership.
The community of Mantserre and Anglo
American Platinum are co-owners and
co-operators of the Atomatic Chrome Recovery
Plant. This partnership will result in the
community of Mantserre benefiting from
Platinum’s Amandelbult mining operation for
many years to come.
While the opening was held this week, the
plant actually started operating last year and
is expected to reach steady state production by
mid-2017.
“This partnership is an example of true
empowerment of the community,” says Kenny
Mokoka, head of business development at
Anglo American Platinum. “In time to come,
the community’s share will grow from 26% to
40%. This is a long-lasting relationship that is
going to see our children and our children’s
children realising the returns.”
