Rustenburg/ Cape Town – On Thursday, 1 March, 25 cyclists commenced a gruelling 1,749-kilometer ride from Sun City Resort to Table Bay hotel in Cape Town to raise awareness and funds for various charities.

The cyclists rode about 216 kilometres a day to cover the full distance to Cape Town in a week.
Along the way, cyclists stopped in Klerksdorp, Bloemhof, Kimberley, Britstown, Beaufort West, Laingsburg and Worcester.

The cyclists did not only donate money and products to charity organisations en-route to Cape Town, but also supported the World Bicycle Relief Organisation and promoted the sport of cycling by donating bicycles to historically disadvantaged individuals.

“Sun City is pleased to once again support the Sun City to Table Bay charity cycle tour and give the cyclists a hero’s send-off they deserve,” said Raul De Lima, general manager at Sun City.

Over the past 15 years, the Sun City to Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour has donated approximately R9 million to various charity organisations. These include amongst others Langebrug School, Maths & Science Academy Northern Cape, Portlands High School, Mary Harding School, CANSA, the Grace Help Centre for abused woman and children, the Aids Orphanage Housing Project, Childline Northern Cape, Moira’s House, Nazareth House, the School for the Deaf in Worcester, Saartjie Baartman Centre for Abused Woman and Children, The NSPCA and Toevlug Rehab Centre.
