Rustenburg – While many regard the festive season as a shopping spree and a time to unwind with family and friends, the Police’s festive time is a time of high alert in protecting and serving the public. On Thursday, 8 December 2016, members of the K9 Dog Unit, Air Wing, Mounted Unit and other police officers lead by the Rustenburg station commander, Brigadier Gertrude Modise, visited the Waterfall Mall to engage with shoppers on taking safety precautions during this festive season.

In an interview with the Platinum Weekly, Brigadier Modise urged the public to be more vigilant this festive season. Here are some of the tips from Brigadier Modise to ensure you have a safer festive season:

  • Refrain from carrying a large amount of cash. Opt for EFTs instead.
  • Do not seek assistance of anyone at the ATMs. Ask only bank cashiers to assist you.
  • Refrain from going to ATMs at night.
  • Refrain from hitch-hiking, rather go to the taxi-rank and use public transport.
  • Do not leave valuable items inside your car. Always make sure that all doors are locked.
