Platinum Publishers welcomed Bojanala FM founder, Matebesi Mohube, as new executive director and co-owner on Thursday, 7 June.
This major black economic empowerment (BEE) deal will join individuals with a vast experience in different fields of the media industry.
From street corners and jukeboxes to kitchen counters and car stereos, this partnership is set to take the Bojanala region by storm!
Platinum Publishers’ community newspaper, the Platinum Weekly is the only freely distributed-, independent newspaper based in Rustenburg. We boast with an ABC certified print run of 25,000 copies per week. The newspaper and website have cultivated a large readership in Rustenburg and the greater North-West.
Platinum Weekly’s sister publication, the Platinum Bushvelder newspaper, based in Thabazimbi, also prints 25,000 copies per week, ABC certified and has in a short space of time established itself as a pillar in the community.
By the same standards, listenership ratings of Bojanala FM grew from 14,000 within six months of their take-off in 2016, to 28,000 in the twelve months following. It’s current rating of 48,000 as given by the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA), is an indication of the zest and professionalism of the employees of the company.
Matebesi Mohube spoke of the significance of the deal, which he said was a continuation of the dream that God revealed to him when he founded the Christian-based Bojanala FM. “God gave my wife and I the vision to start the radio station. In 2014, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) gave us the license to open a community radio station.
The rest is history.” Founder and managing director of Platinum Publishers, Len Lombard, echoed Mohube’s sentiment, reiterating that their partnership is based upon a shared Christian foundation which aims to serve all the members of the community.
“Matebesi and I have shared values. We know what the media industry is all about and we are not afraid of hard work. We have known each other for some time and enjoy an easy and open relationship. This collaboration would not only benefit us, it would benefit our community as well,” Len said.
