Rustenburg – The annual Dis-Chem Ride for Sight cycling race took place on the East Rand this past weekend, Saturday, 18 February 2017.

Michael Stevens raced in the single stage race and finished overall 3rd in the Ashburton Sabie MTB Race!

This was the last chance many riders used to prepare themselves for the upcoming Cape Town Cycle Race “Argus” taking place in March.

The Rustenburg Cycling Club was again well represented with many of its top cyclists shoning themselves in this tough ultra-marathon race of 116 km, with the start and finish at the Boksburg City Stadium. The race also provided a shorter distance of 62 km for the novices and juniors to race.

Completing the Dis-Chem: Back; Jacob Kola; middle from left: Sheldon Kukard and Alec Brough; front from left; John-William Lang, Johnny Lang and Karen Lang.

Alec Brough had another outstanding performance when he came 8th out of 208 cyclists in the 60-69 age-group in a blistering time of 3:07:04. Other results from members of the Rustenburg Cycling Club: Tracey Andrews 3:36:05, Vaughan Townsend 3:33:02, Johnny Lang 3:25:04, and Danie Prinsloo 3:26:10.

Richard Roos completing the Ashburton Sabie MTB Race. The Ashburton Sabie MTB race also took place in Mpumalanga over the weekend in very wet and muddy conditions. Rustenburg Cycling’s Richard Roos participated in this gruelling multi-stage event and completed the race in overall 88 position. This is an outstanding result for Richard, considering he only took up the sport in 2016.
