Rustenburg – Two suspects were shot and killed during a house robbery in Zinniaville on Wednesday 5 September. The suspects have been on the police wanted list in connection with 38 cases.

Police spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi said one of the suspects, Kodisang Mogajane, escaped from the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court when he appeared before court, from the court’s holding cells.

The two deceased suspects allegedly broke into a house in Zinniavile and held the owners hostage whilst ransacking their home. According to sergeant Ofentse, as the two suspects prepared to flee, they were spotted by neighbours. A shootout occurred, and the two were shot.

Meanwhile, police in the province have issued the following safety tips to prevent house robberies:
Ensure your house has a peephole in the front door. Never open your door to a stranger.
Make sure your domestic worker does not allow any person in your house without your consent.

Do not trust strangers, ever.
Be alert and protect yourself.
Turn on your lights and do not call out if you suspect there is a prowler in or outside your house. Phone the police immediately.
If someone is in your house, get out through a door or window if possible, and call the police right away from a safe place.
If you’re trapped by an intruder inside your home, give him what he wants. Do whatever you need to do to ensure your safety.
A firearm must be stored in a safe, when not in your possession. Only shoot someone if you are in a life-threatening situation.
