Schools in North West delivered a highly credible performance against strong opposition from South Africa’s biggest regions at the 2018 Spur Schools MTB League Inter-schools final in Magaliesburg on 6 October.

Riders from North West achieved a total of four podium places: one first place and three second places. The first-placed rider was Brendan van Eerden (Potchefstroom Gimnasium). The second-placed riders were: Christiaan Smith (Potchefstroom Gimnasium); Jone van Eeden (Potchefstroom Gimnasium); and Willie van Eck (Rustenburg).

This year the North West attracted a total of 791 entries and completed 1 851 laps and 9 674km for the season.

“It’s been a jam-packed league and we are so proud of our riders, each one of them trained really hard and gave the 2018 season their absolute all. There’s already talk of the 2019 league, but for now, we’re still enjoying the fact that we did so well against the more powerful regions,”

said Deon Steyn, race director for North West region.
