Two men doused with petrol and set alight

Rustenburg/ Phokeng – The Phokeng Police arrested a 44-year old man on Monday, 27 February 2017, on charges of murder and attempted murder after he took the law into his own hands.

Two men, suspected guilty of vehicle theft, were set alight by an angry mob. They were publically doused with petrol and set alight. “One man died on scene and the other was transported to a local hospital for treatment,” Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau, police spokesperson, confirmed.

This incident occurred on Sunday, 26 February 2017 in Freedom Park, near Phokeng.

The 44-year old man was arrested when he went to open a case at the Phokeng police station. He appeared before the Phokeng Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 February 2017.


Illegal firearm confiscated

Rustenburg/ Boitekong – The Boitekong Police arrested four suspects, aged between 24-34, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, during a routine patrol stop and search operation.

The arrest of the four men, all occupants of a silver Toyota bakkie, was made early Monday morning, 27 February 2017, in Boitekong X13. The suspects tried to flee but the Police managed to apprehend them.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the weapon was reported stolen at the Akasia Police station in Pretoria in November last year,” Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, police spokesperson, said.

The suspects appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 February 2017.


Execution-style murder

Rustenburg/ Boitekong – A woman was shot three times in the head, execution-style, on Friday evening, 24 February 2017.

The woman and her two friends were overpowered by two men who entered her house in Meriteng Ext 1, Riverside.  One of the two men shot the woman three times.

One cell phone was stolen.

The women reported that they were ordered to lie down on the floor, and cooperated without provocation.

29 Arrests in Boitekong

Rustenburg/ Boitekong – A successful joint-operation by the Boitekong Police and the Public Safety and Provincial Traffic unit on Saturday evening, 25 February 2017, has resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals. “The arrests included charges for liquor-, drugs- and the possession of dangerous weapons-related incidents and one arrest for driving under the influence,” Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, police spokesperson, said.

The Boitekong station commander Colonel Peter Rapula Juma thanked all the members for their hard work and commitment.
