Tragedy on the N4
Rustenburg – A life was lost on the N4 on Thursday morning, 9 March 2017, in a tragic vehicle accident at approximately 09h00.
A 16-wheeler Chrome Carrier truck with two trailers was heading towards Rustenburg on the N4, just after the Koster turnoff, on the climb of the mountain.
“I felt a jolt and heard a loud noise,” the driver of the truck said in an interview with the Platinum Weekly. “When I got out, I saw that a silver Volkswagen Polo rammed into the rear-end of the truck. Moments later, the car caught fire. I rushed to the vehicle to get the people out, and with the help of bystanders, we managed to extract the two occupants of the car.”
“The driver of the car was transported to a nearby hospital,” Weyland Bothma, station manager of Trauma Rescue said. “The passenger, a female, was sadly declared dead on scene.” The driver of the truck sustained no injuries and investigations into the accident continue.
We extend our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
