Magaliesberg – Netcare 911 paramedics were summoned to assist Mountain Rescue, the South African Air force from 17 Squadron and a team from Off Road Rescue Unit, to locate and treat a 77-year old woman.

“The woman had injured herself in Magaliesberg on Sunday, 12 March 2017,” Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesperson, said.

An elderly lady slipped and fell along a hiking trail in a very inaccessible area in the Magaliesberg.

Reports from the scene indicate that the elderly lady slipped and fell along a very inaccessible part of the hiking trail at around 10h30.

The rescue team managed to locate the hikers and after the patient was examined, it was found that she sustained serious injuries. The paramedics stabilised the lady and after she was immobilised in a specialised stretcher, they hoisted her with the medic and rescuers into the Oryx helicopter. She was then flown to a specialised hospital in Gauteng for the care that she required.
