Rustenburg/ Potchefstroom – The long arm of the law caught up with 283 suspects, who were arrested by the police between Tuesday 30 April and Wednesday 1 May during separate operations in various parts of the North West province.

Of this number, 108 arrests were made for assault and the remainder include: robbery, rape, malicious damage to property, contravening protection orders, burglary and theft. “Out of the 283 arrests, 26 were for crimes against women and children.

The suspects were arrested at all seven policing clusters in the province. The suspects  appeared before various courts on Friday 3 May,” police spokesperson colonel Adéle Myburgh said. She added that 80 of the arrests were made in Klerksdorp and 78 in Rustenburg.

Police provincial commissioner for the North West, lieutenant Baile Motswenyane, applauded officers for bringing offenders to book. She said the arrests must send a clear message to perpetrators that crime does not pay.
