Message from Christo Henning, DP, Super Group Leons Mazda Rustenburg

Mazda Rustenburg is part of Leons Motors Rustenburg Supergroup Ltd. Mazda have parted from Ford in 2015 and for the first time ever Mazda was flying solo.

I am extremely proud to be part of the Leons Motors Team. We take great pride in our work and as the community already know, our awesome Charity Fund that was a staff initiative. This initiative, Paying It Forward, helped numerous unprivileged individuals over the past 4 years. We also managed to gather enough money with our Paying It Forward Golf day, and with the staff contributions, to do two cochlear implants for a little boy called Delmé Smith.

Mazda Rustenburg and Land Rover Rustenburg, which are both part of Leons Motors Rustenburg Supergroup, were both nominated for the Business of the Year NADA Awards in the Small Business Category. This alone is a major achievement, but when Mazda Rustenburg were announced the winner in the Small Business Category, I knew we achieved what we worked for the entirety of 2016 – Going Above and Beyond – like our motto states. Thank you to the community for supporting us as a company and helping us achieving great heights.

The winners are based on their return on average operational assets (ROAA) for a 12 month period. Five nominees in each category were selected for final evaluation.

This was the 21th year that these prestigious awards have been made by Sewells Group Sub Sahara Africa, a subsidiary of the global Sewells Group, a consulting and outsourcing firm which specialises in the retail automotive industry and has been operating in South Africa since the early 1980’s.

This year the Businessman of the Year awards, function at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, 8 March 2017. The event also enjoyed the co-partner support of a number of major players in the retail motor industry Britehouse Automotive, DEKRA, Gumtree, NADA, WesBank, Wilken Communications and Transunion.

Sewells SA evaluates the operating financial data of more than 1 200 dealerships countrywide each month and once a year the best performers are honoured. All dealers submit their financial statements to Sewells Group each month qualify to participate and are ranked in three equal-sized groups according to the value of their operational assets. They are then ranked from highest to lowest using ROAA percentages without repeating any of the previous vehicle brands.

Sewells SA operates 23 performance groups nationally, each with about 10 members, and these people meet regularly as think tanks to develop ways of improving the operational performance of their motor dealerships. Those who have been a member of a performance group for at least two years are considered for a special annual award which is based on the percentage improvement by their dealership year on year.
