Rustenburg – Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari lauded senior women law enforcement officers for clamping down on traffic violations and maintaining the law during a successful operation along the N4.

The ‘Phenomenal Women in Action’ operation was conducted jointly by personnel from the South African National Défense Force (SANDF), the South African Police Service (SAPS) as well as traffic police officers.

“What is impressive about this operation is that it was planned, executed and fully operated by women”, said the MEC. “It is heart-warming to see the ability of women being typified in this way.”

During the operation, which was held on Friday 28 August, motorists found on the wrong side of the law with regards to speed violations, overloading, drunken driving, and other infringements were brought to book.

A total of 340 vehicles were stopped and searched during the clampdown while 90 fines – to the value of R45,000 – were issued to motorists for a variety of offences. Additionally, six pedestrians were arrested for unlawfully crossing the N4 near Majakaneng.

After demonstrating their competency as law enforcement officers, the women proceeded to Polonia Primary School where they donated 350 packs of sanitary towels, sanitiser kits, and masks to the learners.
