Mooinooi/ Brits – A man accused of murdering his wife is expected to apply for bail during his second appearance at the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 26 November.

Sicelo Gumede is charged with the murder of his 31-year-old wife Zanele. Apparently, Gumede had reported his wife missing before the body was discovered on the side of Lonrho Drive in Mooinooi by a passer-by on Friday 13 November.

"The body was allegedly found with multiple stab wounds while her throat was slit with an unknown object. Emergency medical and rescue services (EMRS) officials were called and declared Zanele dead on the scene,” police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said.

“Rustenburg police arrived at the scene of the body with the suspect, who identified the deceased as his wife. After a thorough police investigation, Gumede was arrested and charged with murder. The motive of the incident is yet to be determined and police are carrying out further investigations into the matter,” Myburgh added.

Provincial commissioner lieutenant general Sello Kwena lauded police for their speedy apprehension of the alleged perpetrator.
