Rustenburg/ Shylock – A fire that broke out on a farm located in the Shylock area on the N4/ Swartruggens Road, and which burned a massive store and its contents to the ground, continued to burn until the following day.

The fire started at around 11:00 after an Eskom overhead electric cable broke loose and came into contact with the store. The fire raged on for the next 36 hours.

Neighbours reported that explosions of gas cylinders could be heard from kilometres away and that the dark cloud of smoke could be seen from afar for hours. One of the gas cylinders which exploded flew into the air and landed on a nearby thatch roof. Luckily it could be extinguished in time.
