Rustenburg – What started out as a project to brighten their immediate community has expanded and is benefiting the broader community.

Platinum Weekly reported on 28 May 2021 about community members staying in Cashan, near the veld on the corner of Nylrivier and Timbati street, who grew tired of this beautiful spot becoming an illegal dumpsite.

A handful of residents came together with a vision to turn this 5,000 square meter veld into an area where families can go for a walk and spend time together. This dream became even bigger when they hosted their first Timbati Veld Market Day on Saturday 30 April 2022 on the exact spot. The turn-out was amazing and the community showed support for this initiative.

The market day was aimed at raising funds to support various organisations in the community. It was a platform were community-based organisations like the Rustenburg Crime Combatting Forum (RCCF) and the Rustenburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) could raise funds. Local companies and entrepreneurs could also showcase their products and services.

One of the projects they are busy with is upgrading and renovations at the Kerk Street municipal flats. The funds raised through these market days will enable them to continue with this project.

The Rustenburg SPCA was also one of the organisations chosen to benefit from the first market day so that they can fix some of their kennels.

This is only the beginning, and they are already planning the next one that is set to take place on 28 May. Join in the fun, make a difference in your community and support the initiative.
