SA – When the clock struck 12 on the 4th of May, our cars did not turn into pumpkins. But believe it or not, the mask mandate and the remaining Covid-19 restrictions lapsed.

The Department of Health had 30 days from the end of the Covid state of disaster to table and enforce any proposed Covid regulations to replace the previous regulations.

Platinum Weekly spoke to North West Department of Health departmental spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane, who anticipated that our President or the Minister of Health would make an announcement on Wednesday 4 May. At the time of going to print, it was clear that they were not going to.

The President’s spokesperson, Tyrone Seale and the Department of Health made it clear that they are aware that as from midnight 4 May, there is no mask or other Covid-19 restrictions in place.

Speaking to the media, Seale said: “The President will address us when he feels it is appropriate.” ... “The mandates must come from inside,” he added.
