Run and cycle for life!
Rustenburg – The local Rustenburg Marathon Club and Rustenburg Cycling Club (RCC) hosted the Keystone Milling Mountain Race (running) on 2 September and Kgaswane MTB Challenge (mountain biking) events respectively on 3 September.
Both events started and finished at the Rustenburg Kloof at 07h00 in the morning.
The mountain biking challenge had three distance entries: 60 km, 35 km and 15 km – and 203 riders competed.
The 60 km race was a close challenge between Willie van Eck and Floris Engelbrecht. Willie eventually beat Willie by 3 minutes with Alexander Conradie in third. The Ladies 60 km category was won by Yvonne Prinsloo and Tracey Edwards came in on second.
In the men 35 km category, Leon Geldenhuys, Calvin van Wyk and Nicki van Wyk (two brothers) were in first, second and third position. In the Ladies 35 km category, Caitlin Thompson, Sone Gibbon and Belinda Vermeulen, were in first, second and third position.
Some riders decided to live on the wild side by entering both the cycling and mountain race the day before.
Riders who completed both the run and cycle event qualified for the Kgaswane Extreme medal. These include: Caitlin Thompson, Darryl Thompson, Richard Guy, Dave Guy, Paul Grobler, Themba Ngwenya, David Ndou, Waldig Strauss, Veda Strauss, Marno Prinsloo and Almero Klopper.
