POLICE FOIL SUSPECTED BUSINESS ROBBERY IN RUSTENBURG

Police detained the suspects at the scene in Rustenburg East.

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Eight men were arrested after police intercepted a group allegedly planning to rob a business in Rustenburg East on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

According to North West police spokesperson constable Thuto Bobelo, officers acted on information about suspects travelling in a bronze Volkswagen Polo and a silver Chevrolet. When officers approached the vehicles and identified themselves, the suspects allegedly opened fire. Police returned fire and arrested all eight men, aged between 26 and 38.

Three suspects were wounded and taken to hospital under police guard. Two unmarked police vehicles were damaged. Police recovered three pistols, a rifle, ammunition, cellphones and the two vehicles.

The suspects face charges including conspiracy to commit business robbery, eight counts of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice.

They appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 September. No court outcome was supplied. North West provincial commissioner lieutenant general Arthur Peter Adams praised the teams involved for their coordinated response.
