11 September 2026 · Platinum Weekly

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Police have warned e-hailing commuters to exercise extra caution following several reported crimes involving female passengers in Rustenburg. According to warrant officer Ofentse Mokgadi, the reported incidents include robbery and sexual assault. Investigations are continuing.

Passengers – particularly women travelling alone – are advised to:
• Share their trip details and live location with someone they trust.
• Confirm the driver, vehicle and registration details before getting in.
• Where possible, pay electronically in advance to prevent unnecessary confrontations.
• Remain alert throughout the journey and report suspicious behaviour.

SAPS stressed that the warning is intended to promote reasonable precautions, not create panic. Anyone who has experienced a similar crime is urged to report it at the nearest police station. This information could help investigators identify and bring those responsible to justice.
