WE RETURN. WE MAINTAIN. WE MONITOR. WE ACT.
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Our Ward Matters (OWM) continued its efforts across Rustenburg this past week, tackling overgrown vegetation, litter and illegal dumping while encouraging residents to take greater pride in their surroundings.
Founded by Ward 15 councillor André van Dyk and working under the leadership of Cllr Van Dyk and Cllr Tanya Rothman, the initiative remains active in Wards 15, 16 and 17.
Cleaning and clearing Ward 17
On Wednesday, 26 August, OWM and Cllr Rothman tackled illegal dumping and litter from the Rivers area towards Selly Park.
Despite facing the same recurring problems after almost five years of cleaning, the team remains committed to educating residents and encouraging responsibility for shared spaces.
On Thursday, 27 August, the team moved into Dachill, clearing overgrown vegetation and grass encroaching onto the road to improve visibility, safety and the area’s appearance.
Consistent care in Ward 15
On Monday, 31 August, the team inspected Ward 15 and welcomed the removal of discarded couches near BP Safari and along Helen Joseph Avenue. Concerns around Wildevy and neighbouring areas have been referred to Public Safety for assistance.
OWM then cut grass along Tamarisk Avenue, removed vegetation growing into the road and collected litter in Protea Park. A resident also helped clean near an area where bees are located.
