Meat off the shelves as Rustenburg businesses face compliance checks

Some of the meat products removed from shelves and confiscated during compliance inspections in Rustenburg.

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Meat products that failed to meet required standards were confiscated during joint compliance inspections at businesses in the Rustenburg CBD and taxi rank on Thursday 10 September 2026.

Sergeant Beukes and sergeant Moyo of the Rustenburg SAPS Firearm, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods (FLASH) Unit joined various stakeholders, including the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), for the operation.

Warrant officer Ofentse Mokgadi reported that butcheries were among the businesses inspected. The inspections resulted in the confiscation of non-compliant meat products, with the NRCS issuing notices to comply and receipts for the confiscated goods. Fines were also issued.

Acting district commissioner of Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2, brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, commended the police members and stakeholders for their continued efforts to enforce the law and protect consumers.
