Did you know? - SOME BIRDS SLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN…

For some birds, keeping an eye out for danger is possible even during sleep. Mallard ducks can rest one half of their brain while the other remains alert – a state called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. The eye connected to the alert half stays open, helping them detect approaching predators. Researchers found that ducks resting at the edges of a group used this sleeping strategy more often, directing their open eye away from their companions. This unusual ability allows them to get some rest while watching for threats.
