The successful candidate will be required to take legal responsibility for labour and machinery in the section and manage this area to obtain optimum machine, plant, equipment performance and engineering availability as well as achieve production targets.

Minimum requirements:

  • Recognised University degree/National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the mining industry
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a managerial capacity
  • Government Certificate of Competency for Mines and Works
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Experience in plant processes will be an advantage.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and monitor adherence to engineering standards and legislative requirements, taking corrective action where necessary
  • Allocate resources in consultation with relevant Section Heads
  • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes and systems
  • Drive and implement action plans to achieve the mine strategy and business plans
  • Set and prepare financial budget for the section
  • Keep abreast of market trends and new technology
  • Ensure the effective management and control of human resources for optimal utilisation.

Other skills and competencies:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic circuits, TMM safety systems, electrical infrastructure (standards and maintenance) and crushers
  • Sound knowledge and experience in root cause analysis and reliability centred maintenance principles
  • Sound knowledge of HR and IR/ER management systems.
