Rustenburg – Angels for the Aged is a newly established community project comprising of a few local residents in Rustenburg who have taken it upon themselves to assist the elderly in the municipal old age home.

Mrs Joan van Heerden is the founder of the group and has been a busy-bee with continuous assistance to the elderly.

With the dawn of Christmas on our doorstep, the group has decided to uplift the spirits of these valued oldies with an early Christmas meal and a few special treats.

Mohamed Abba of ABBA Emporium Wool Centre has joined this venture to assist with the Christmas get-together.

Collectively with all the volunteers, Mohamed Abba has brought about new ideas to make it even more special. “My aim is to not only give these precious gems a meal, but to give them also a few goodies to take with them to their rooms,” Mohamed said in an interview with the Platinum Weekly newspaper. “In this light, we have gone further and started a collection of non-perishable items for the elders. We gladly accept all canned foods, biscuits, toiletries and personal hygiene products.”

Thus far Angels for the Aged have volunteers who offered the following service, two hairdressers who will do the hair for the ladies, a DJ who will be playing Christmas tunes, a Tuk-Tuk service that will take the oldies for free rides, and more to come!

“We also ask volunteers to bring their kids along; it’s such a blessing having young and old celebrate Christmas together. We extend an open invitation for volunteers to assist. By the will of God, we have future dreams of growing and assisting even more people,” says Mohamed.
