Rustenburg – Laerskool Vastrap celebrates their 50th anniversary in 2018. As part of the celebrations, Vastrap undertook the initiative to collect 50 000 litres of water to be transported to Cape Town, as Day Zero quickly approaches.

This project kicked off on Friday, 2 February. The learners were requested to donate water and from there the project grew and water came streaming in. Donations came in from every corner of the community, from large corporations right down to the old age homes.

On Friday, 9 February, the school had collected 134 000 litres of water, way beyond the set target.
The charity organisation, Gift of the Givers, supplied three trucks to transport the donated water. Loading the trucks became an event for the learners of Laerskool Vastrap as they eagerly lent a hand in loading the trucks.

“This project exceeded all expectations. Donations were received from private people who brought in a bottle of water or companies who brought truckloads of water. We thank each person! Our team of parents, and our staff, we thank you all for the tireless effort you all made,” said Ditro Pieterse, educator at Laerskool Vastrap.
