FROM MOOINOOI TO THE STARS!

Reuben Duvenhage (16), a Grade 10 learner at Silver Creek School, is one of four young South Africans selected for the Orbita 26 International Space Mission Programme.

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Mooinooi – Sixteen-year-old Grade 10 learner Reuben Duvenhage is reaching for the stars after being selected as one of four learners who will represent South Africa in the Orbita 26 International Space Mission Programme.

The journey began with approximately 50 learners from several schools completing an initial selection test. Only 21 advanced to the interview stage, including five learners from

Silver Creek School – the highest representation by any participating school.

Reuben successfully completed his interview and earned a place in Team South Africa. The group is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates and Russia from 10 October to 5 November 2026. They will explore space science, technology, engineering and innovation while helping to develop and build a satellite destined for orbit.

No limits on his dreams

Reuben’s achievement is especially inspiring because he lives with Type 1 diabetes.

Managing the condition requires daily discipline, responsibility and resilience, yet he refuses to allow his diagnosis to determine how far he can go. His journey carries a powerful message for other young people facing health challenges: your circumstances need not define your future or limit your dreams.

Silver Creek School is immensely proud of Reuben, who will represent his school, community and country on an international stage.
