Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Nine participants, 16 medals and plenty of reason to celebrate! Luka Dojo-Ka, based in Luka, returned from the 42nd IFFSK National Funakoshi Cup in Durban with an impressive haul of nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

Held on 28 and 29 August 2026, the tournament saw the team achieve success in both kata and kumite. For instructor sensei Matthews Mpolokeng Motsi, who began training the team in late April 2025, the results mark a proud milestone.

Behind the team’s achievements was community support that helped make the trip possible.

Matthews thanked Shirley N Tradings and Projects for sponsoring transport, and Rakgadi Happy Motsi for welcoming the team into her home and providing accommodation for two nights. He expressed his gratitude to both supporters for giving the participants the opportunity to compete at such a significant event. With medals around their necks and a memorable tournament behind them, the Luka team has given its community something to cheer about — and plenty to build on.
