Car theft foiled, suspects arrested

10 May 2021

Rustenburg – Two suspects appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday 3 May after police found car breaking instruments in their vehicle during the opening of Rustenburg Mall on 29 April.
According to police spokesperson Ofentse Mokgadi, there was an attempt to steal a vehicle earlier during the day. “Our men and women in blue were on a lookout for possible suspects. Warrant officer Rampou and sergeant Moyo were on patrol when they spotted and searched a suspicious-looking vehicle.” 
Thanks to the great police work and vigilant security officers at Rustenburg Mall, the attempted robbery was foiled, and the culprits arrested.

Teacher stabbed in full view of learners

Brits – Education activist Hendrick Makaneta condemned the stabbing of a female teacher at Tshefoge Primary School near Jericho outside Brits on Monday 3 May. The 47-year-old teacher was allegedly stabbed by her 63-year-old boyfriend – who is also a teacher at a nearby school - in full view of several learners.

House robbery duo in court

Brits – Two suspects appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28 April on charges of conspiracy to commit a house robbery, pointing a firearm, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm. Jonathan Mathunduluka (25) and Sifiso Manana (42), who were making their second court appearance, were arrested on 21 April during their unsuccessful attempt to rob a house in Brits.

Protestors close N4

Rustenburg – An angry mob of protestors took to the N4 at the Buffelspoort off-ramps on Thursday 29 April. Traffic had to be diverted to Mooinooi, Kroondal, and the R104. A couple of hours later, the highway was opened to both directions. The reason for the protest was unclear at the time of going to print.
