Bail judgment for Onalenna’s murder case set for 28 August
Rustenburg – The fight for justice in the murder of North-West University (NWU) student, Onalenna Selebogo (21), continues to grip the Rustenburg community.
Onalenna was found dead in a Tuin Street flat on 3 August 2025, her body wrapped in sheets after being stabbed multiple times in the neck. Her boyfriend, Walter Tshehlo (29), is facing a charge of murder after fleeing the scene and later handing himself over to police.
Following his recent bail application, the case has now been postponed for bail judgment on Thursday, 28 August 2025.
“Walter’s case has been scheduled to return to court on Thursday, 28 August 2025, for a bail judgment,” confirmed NPA North West spokesperson, Sivenathi Gunya.
This tragic case has drawn national attention, once again highlighting the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in South Africa. Onalenna is described as a bright young woman whose future was stolen too soon.
Police are still appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information that may help the investigation is urged to contact captain Elizabeth Tieties on 082 772 9468 or visit the Rustenburg Police Station.
