N4 Cash-in-Transit Heist Foiled
Rustenburg/ Mooinooi/ Majakaneng – An attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery on Monday evening, 25 August 2025, ended in failure for the suspects thanks to the quick thinking and courage of the driver and responding security teams.
According to police spokesperson brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the incident unfolded on the N4 near Majakaneng when a silver Mercedes-Benz rammed into a CIT van en route to Rustenburg. The suspects opened fire, but the van’s driver swerved off the road into nearby bushes and managed to reach one of the mines in the area, where SSG Security officers rushed in to assist.
The would-be robbers abandoned their plan, fleeing the scene. Their getaway Mercedes was later discovered burning at the roadside. No arrests have been made yet, but police investigations are underway.
Acting provincial commissioner of North West, major general Patrick Asaneng, praised the CIT driver and SSG officers for their composure under pressure.
The police are appealing to community members to come forward with any information that could help identify and arrest the perpetrators. All information will be treated as strictly confidential.
