FIVE MEN KILLED IN MINE SHOOTING 

Tlhatlaganyane (North West) – Five bodies were discovered at an open-cast mine near Tlhatlaganyane village, an area policed by Sun City SAPS. The men were found shot dead on Monday, 25 August 2025.

Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed that a multi-disciplinary police team has been deployed to the scene. 

“Our investigators are looking into every angle – from the identities of the deceased to why they were at the site, and whether (illegal) rival mining operations may be involved,” brigadier Mokgwabone said.

The area has long been under the spotlight due to illegal mining activities, previously drawing the attention of three National Parliament Portfolio Committees on Police, Home Affairs, and Minerals. Local tribal authorities have also raised concerns about mining-related crime in the region.
