Caroline Werner murder trial postponed yet again
Rustenburg – Nearly three years after the tragic murder of 31-year-old Caroline Werner, justice remains painfully out of reach.
On Monday, 25 August 2025, the long-running murder trial of Solly “Moya” Molefe (22) was once again postponed — this time because the court had no running water. Proceedings were moved to the following day, 26 August, but instead of continuing, the matter was remanded for further trial within a tribal court until 11 September 2025.
Adding to the delays are new arguments being raised in Molefe’s defence. His legal team is attempting to prove that he was assaulted while in police custody — a claim that the prosecution is challenging. The dispute has now become yet another reason for the trial’s slow progress.
For Caroline’s family, each postponement cuts deeper. What should be a pursuit of justice often feels like a cycle of excuses and bureaucracy. “Every time we prepare ourselves for answers, we’re sent home with nothing but more waiting,” her mother told Platinum Weekly.
Caroline’s life was stolen in September 2022 when she was found murdered near the R24 and Dinie Estates Road. “We want closure, we want peace. But most of all, we want justice,” her family said.
