Rustenburg – The quest for justice in the tragic murder of North-West University (NWU) student, Onalenna Selebogo (21), continues to weigh heavily on the Rustenburg community.

Onalenna was found brutally killed in a Tuin Street flat, Rustenburg, on 3 August 2025, her body discovered wrapped in sheets after being stabbed multiple times in the neck. Her boyfriend, Walter Tshehlo (29), stands accused of her murder after fleeing the scene and later handing himself over to police.

The case, which has already drawn national attention, was expected to move forward following bail proceedings in August. However, it has now been postponed once again – this time to 30 October 2025 – to allow for further investigations.

Onalenna’s death has become a painful symbol of South Africa’s ongoing struggle with gender-based violence and femicide. Friends and family describe her as a bright, promising young woman whose future was stolen too soon.
