Rustenburg – The family of Caroline Werner (31), who was brutally murdered in September 2022, continues to endure the heartbreak of court delays.

What was expected to be a crucial day in court ended with yet another postponement. The case of Solly “Moya” Molefe (22) has now been shifted to 14 October 2025, according to Sivenathi Gunya, the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) communication officer for the North West division.

The drawn-out proceedings stem from a trial-within-a-trial, in which the court must first determine the validity of Molefe’s alleged confession. Molefe claims he was assaulted by an investigating officer and forced to confess. Only once this matter is resolved will the main trial for Caroline’s murder move forward.

For Caroline’s grieving family, the repeated delays are an agonising cycle. Her mother previously shared: “I am exhausted by this endless process. My heart is shattered, and the pain and longing consume me.”

Caroline’s life was cut short near the R24 and Dinie Estates Road nearly three years ago, but closure remains painfully out of reach.
