Rustenburg – A devastating fire broke out early on Monday morning, 6 October 2025, at Shop 33 on the corner of Fatima Bhayat and Leyds Streets in Rustenburg’s bustling central business district (CBD).

According to the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Emergency and Disaster Unit, the call reporting the fire came through at 07:08 am. Firefighters arrived swiftly to find the shop fully engulfed in flames. Despite the intense blaze, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The response showcased exceptional teamwork and coordination among multiple firefighting and emergency units. Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Fire and Emergency Management Services worked alongside crews from Valterra Platinum, Royal Bafokeng, Madibeng, Kgetleng, and Mogwase fire departments. Law enforcement officers, SAPS K9 Unit members, detectives, and crime prevention teams were also on scene.

Investigations continue.

The interior of the shop was completely destroyed by the fire.
