Northam/ Rustenburg – A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of a 41-year-old suspect and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and stolen goods.

On Sunday, 9 November 2025, members of the Northam Detectives, Rustenburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), and the Thabazimbi Crime Intelligence Unit carried out an intelligence-driven joint operation that led to the suspect’s arrest in Boitekong, Rustenburg.

According to colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the man was linked to a theft out of motor vehicle case committed in Northam during October. “During the operation, police recovered a pistol with cartridges and a magazine, along with a laptop and iPhone that had been stolen,” he said. “Some of the property had already been sold to different individuals.”

While tracing the firearm, officers received information about a bag left behind at a local tavern. When they searched it, they discovered the weapon inside. Rustenburg LCRC attended the scene for further forensic processing.

The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, lieutenant general Thembi Hadebe, commended the collaborative work of the teams involved and thanked community members who continue to share valuable information with law enforcement.
