
Laerskool Rustenburg-Noord heading to Danone Nations Cup National Finals
Rustenburg – Laerskool Rustenburg-Noord secured a spot in the Danone Nations Cup national finals when they beat newcomers Reivilo Primary School from the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati region 8-7 in a penalty shootout at the provincial finals in Klerksdorp on Wednesday 1 May.
The game ended with neither team scoring in regulation time.
The players from Laerskool Rustenburg-Noord was coached by female coach, Sibusisiwe Mangena, and it was evident when watching the team that she follows the game of soccer intently and knows the rules and regulations well. The team played a tactical game and their ball skills and formations were excellent.
“The games were not easy, but we played well enough to get us to the nationals again and I am overwhelmed and also excited,” said Sibusisiwe.
In attendance was the school principal, Koos van der Walt, believes that sport is as important to the growth of children as education is, because it plays a key role in learning life lessons.
To celebrate Danone’s centenary and the 20th edition of the Danone Nations Cup both the 2018 and 2019 world finals will take place together. The winner at the national finals taking place in Gauteng on 15 June will travel to Spain on October with last year’s winner Nomlinganiselo from the Western Cape.
