Rustenburg – Learners from fourteen local secondary schools gathered at Maemo Motors in Rustenburg on Saturday 21 September to test their calculating skills against each other by competing in the 2019 Maths Olympiad. 


Bafokeng, Keledi, Molotlegi, Mmanape, Matsukubyane, Kitsong, Thethe, Charora, Matsukubyane, Sekete, Tshukudu, Geelhout Park, Mangope and HF Tlou Secondary Schools all took part in this year’s Olympiad.


The competition was hosted by the Tunisi Programme, which aims to develop an appreciation for mathematics among secondary school learners.

 
After crunching some tough numbers, the team from Mmanape emerged victorious with Charora and Mangope finishing second and third respectively. 


The Department of North West Education’s member of the executive committee (MEC) Mmaphefo Matsemela said: “This competition came at a right time when our learners are preparing for final examinations.”

Mmanape Secondary School won the Maths Olympiad.
