Rustenburg – As the 2024 school year kicked off, Rustenburg Educational College (REC), a prominent private high school in Rustenburg, has already made its mark on the football field, leading in various tournaments at the start of the new season.

The dedication and skill of its teams in the Rustenburg Local Football Association League (RULFA) have placed the school’s u/13, u/15, and u/17 teams at the top of their respective logs, eagerly awaiting the announcement of the finals dates by the South African Football Association (SAFA). Victories in these leagues could promote REC to the prestigious SAB League across these age categories.

In addition to local success, the REC Football Academy team is a formidable competitor in the Bojanala District’s SAB Leagues, currently ranking second on the log. Despite tying on 18 points with the Royal Bafokeng Sporting FC, only a goal difference sets REC apart. It’s noteworthy that REC is the sole school-based team in this tournament, which features players up to 23 years old, showcasing the exceptional talent and resilience of our young athletes. The team has achieved remarkable victories against seasoned teams such as White Leopard Security, Impala Mines, Pimmville, and Olympia Stars, proving their mettle on the field.

The achievements of REC students extend beyond the school teams. Nhlanhla Zwane, a former learner, has recently signed a five-year contract with Golden Arrows, a top team from KZN, marking a significant step in his professional football career. Meanwhile, young talent Odirile Ramasodi, at just 13 years of age, has been offered a full study bursary to join the prestigious TUKS Football at the University of Pretoria, an opportunity that speaks volumes about the potential seen in REC’s students.
As REC continues to foster talent and compete with unwavering determination, the school not only contributes to the local sports community but also sets a precedent for academic institutions in South Africa, blending education with high-level sports training.
