
Sibanye tames Botswana national team
Rustenburg – Sibanye Stillwater SAPGM Rugby Club celebrated a proud moment on Saturday, 30 August 2025, when they claimed a resounding 24–12 victory over the Botswana national rugby team in Rustenburg.
The spirited performance has been described as a milestone for the club, with head coach Joel Scherman noting that the players “really stripped it up” and showcased the strength and depth within the squad. A number of players are now expected to challenge for a place in the prestigious Gold Cup group, raising hopes for even greater achievements ahead.
The win was powered by tries from Franco van Wijk, Hennie Mare, Lindile, and Colani Pupuma, while Wiehan Kruger added further polish to the scoreboard with four successful conversions.
“This result is more than just a scoreline,” said head coach Joel Scherman. “It shows that our hard work, discipline, and unity are paying off. The team is hungry for more, and we are looking forward to testing ourselves at the highest levels of club rugby.”
