Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – The countdown has begun for local rugby fans as Rustenburg Impala Rugby Club prepares to kick off the 2026 season with its very first warm-up match — and it’s happening right here at home.

On Saturday 31 January 2026, Impala will welcome Witbank Rugby Club for what promises to be an exciting and hard-fought encounter. The match marks the first real test of the year for the Impala squad and sets the tone for the season ahead.

Director of Rugby Sydney Venter is extending an open invitation to players who want to be part of the journey. “All senior and under-21 players are welcome to join our training sessions,” says Venter. Training sessions take place every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 17:45 to 19:30 at Impala Rugby Club.

But it’s not just players who are being called up — supporters are too. “Come and support our team in this warm-up match,” Venter urges. Community backing, he says, plays a vital role in building confidence and spirit as the team prepares for competitive rugby. Whether you’re a seasoned supporter, a former player, or just love the atmosphere of a local rugby afternoon, this match is a perfect way to start the season.
